A Day At Nursery

Arrival

It's a busy time as we welcome children to start the day. After parking, you and your child will arrive through our secure and monitored entrances, to be greeted by the friendly and familiar nursery team and your child’s very own key person.

Mornings

Your child will join others in their nursery area. From the toddler room to our preschool classroom, each area has its own distinctive look and feel, to reflect every stage of development. It will become a place your child will love, with endless resources and a variety of stimulating activities developed by our team to support their development.

Outdoor play

Our outdoor areas offer the space for your child to explore and take risks with the support of our team. Outdoor play encourages natural curiosity and allows children to develop their gross motor skills while benefiting from healthy fresh air.

Lunch

Lunch is a time to enjoy a freshly-prepared and balanced meal. There’s a healthy and varied menu every day, and we encourage children to discover different tastes and textures, try different food and enjoy the experience of sharing a sociable meal with others.

Indoor play

Our indoor spaces are designed to ensure your child’s time with us will be one of delight and wonder. Each area has its own nurturing atmosphere with environments thoughtfully planned and equipped with the best resources to meet and exceed the needs of all of our children through exciting activities every day.

Naps and quiet time

For nap times, our environments are transformed in to cosy, snuggly areas where children can get the sleep and rest they require for their own personal and developmental needs. Sleep is an important part of the nursery day for our children, so by working together with our parents, we ensure that each child’s needs are carefully considered and met.

Snacks and breaks

Snack times at nursery are a great opportunity to introduce children to different flavours and textures. They can support your child’s learning and development in many ways, parents should endeavour to make them as varied and inviting as possible, to ensure all of our children look forward to these social times in nursery.

Home time

At the end of each day, your child’s Teacher will tell you all about their exciting day at nursery, so you’ll know what they have eaten and how much they have drank, how long they have slept for and what activities they have done and enjoyed the most. We want you to feel part of their day so you will be fully informed to ensure you don’t miss out on any important achievements and development milestones.

Settling In

Starting nursery can be an emotional time, for parents as well as children. We understand completely, and want to give you reassurance and peace of mind.

Every child settles in to nursery differently. We’ve got decades of experience in making it as calm and enjoyable as possible, with a special settling in scheme to make it a little easier.

We love to welcome you to come along to your child’s first settling in session, so you can be with them while they get used to their new surroundings. You’ll meet your child’s key person, too, and see how they interact with them, the rest of the team, and the other children in the nursery. You will continue with another short session, leaving your child for slightly longer as they build their confidence.

At Little Mead Day Nursery, it’s all about building relationships. Your teacher will work in partnership with you to make sure your journey is positive from the start. They’ll be keen to get to know your child, so you can help them find out about your child's individual routines, the people who are special to them, their likes and dislikes, and any other important information such as their special comforter, how they like to be comforted, and if they have a favourite story or activity. We will always tailor activities to suit your child’s interests throughout their time at nursery.

We can offer advice and guidance and can discuss any concerns you may have about your child starting nursery or moving from room to room and on to school.

Living A Healthy Lifestyle

We are great believers in that learning how to live a healthy life starts at a very young age and that parents and carers are the best role models. We encourage, health and wellbeing! This means plenty of physical activity, rest time, problem solving & thinking, a balanced and nutritious diet and attention to social and emotional development.

Healthy Eating

We aim to promote a healthy lifestyle for the children we care for by providing healthy and balanced, fresh, home cooked meals and snacks. we use a lot of seasonal, home grown or allotment produce and locally sourced ingredients in our cooking and through cooking activities, introduce children to a range of flavours and textures.

Children are encouraged to drink plenty of water or milk throughout the day.

We do not provide ready meals, fast food or sweets with the exception of birthday cake which will be provided on birthdays if parents are happy for us to do so.

Promoting Exercise

Physical exercise is an essential part of leading a healthy lifestyle and enabling a contented body and mind.  We go outdoors most days and in most weathers. We encourage the children to be physically active and provide challenging play opportunities in our garden.

We are a sport loving family and have a wide range of sporting equipment to aid the physical development and social interaction amongst the children in our care.

Daily activites may include a range of:

Ball games

Dancing

Movement games

Running around the park

Climbing frames

Cycling

Building blocks

Why is a healthy lifestyle so important?

Physical activity and eating well helps children grow strong bones, maintain a healthy weight and discover the world around them. Best of all, it's great fun.

All children should be physically active for at least one hour a day. You can help by encouraging your child to find activities they enjoy, and by building physical activity into family life. Most children love running around a park or playing in a playground.

It is a part of the way children discover the world and themselves. It helps to build strong muscles and healthy bones, as well as to improve self-confidence.
